Last night was crazy. Heard some terrible news via instant messenger and then it was on the news. A grown man fatally stabbed or wounded all three of his younger sisters in their Milton home. The girls ages were 17, 9 and five years old. Only the nine year old survived and was the one who called police. Once police arrived they had to shoot and kill the suspect. From what I'm hearing he wasn't much older than I am (20) which is even more disturbing.
This is beyond sad. The amount of violence that continues to plague our communities has become almost uncontrollable in the sense that it's seeped into our hearts and made us all look at each other in some kind of way. The first thing I was told to do was pray. But when it came down to it, what do you say? "God please comfort this family.." Although I know in my mind how could someone be comforted in a time of such grief? So I decided to just say "God just be overwhelmingly present in this families situation." Enough is enough. This year's violence hasn't been AS intense as the past two or three years but we HAVE to continue to stand up for something greater than us all, peace.
If anyone is interested or will be in the Boston area next month I encourage you all to support the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute's Mother's Day Peace Walk (whoo! a mouth full haha). It takes place every Mother's Day Sunday morning at 8am. A peace rally and introduction kick off the day and then we walk for about an hour to two hours around Boston chanting for peace. May sound corny, but it's in support of Mother's who have lost their children due to gun violence. More details to come soon.
